Let’s Talk About Money
In 2016, I was in the process of negotiating my salary at my previous job. As a manager, I knew my success depended upon having market data that showed my competitive worth.
Like many people, I went to sites like Glassdoor—and like many content strategists, found nothing.
So I took a risk—I created a survey to ask other content strategists to share their compensation with me. I was overwhelmed by the response I got over several years.
See the Results
You can download the analysis I did of the data people provided about their compensation, which includes:
Sample profiles based on title, level of experience, and location
An overview of the common (and not so common) benefits people receive in their total compensation package
Thoughts about what drives salary rates for content strategy and how we can advance

Share Your Comp
Sharing what we make (and why) is what ultimately allows us to advocate for fair compensation across the board.
You can contribute to the new-and-improved salary survey to help us do just that!
This is a fresh version of the original survey—I took what I learned from the first one and made changes to better anonymize and structure the data to make it easier for people to compare across data points.
This is meant to be a resource create by content strategists, for content strategists, so pay it forward and ask other people to contribute to build what we know.
